The York St. John Political Union began with a simple but critical observation: our university was missing a space for truly diverse political discussion.
Our founder noticed that while many students held strong political convictions, there was a real lack of a dedicated society that genuinely represented multiple political groups under one roof. Existing spaces often leaned one way or the other, leaving those with differing views without a natural home for genuine, challenging conversation.
The vision was clear: to create an organisation that actively welcomes the Left, the Right, and all voices in between. We wanted to build a Union where the focus wasn't on conversion, but on credible, passionate, and respectful debate. From this need for a non-partisan platform, the Political Union was born—a society dedicated to the idea that everyone has a right to be heard, and everyone has something to learn.
